Anaesthetic Errors

Undergoing surgery is a daunting experience as we put our lives in the hands of the Anaesthetist and Surgeons. Unfortunately, problems can occur with the anaesthesia and anaesthetic errors can be made.

What injuries can occur?

Nerve injuries can be caused when the anaesthesia is injected and damage to teeth can occur during the intubation for the anaesthesia. If an Anaesthetist fails to manage the patient correctly during the operation, the patient could experience ‘anaesthetic awareness.’ This is when the patient is still awake and feel the operation being carried out without being able to alert the surgeons.

If you have suffered any illness during or after having anaesthetic, then you may have a claim for clinical negligence. Our specialist team of Solicitors will be able to assist you with a claim. You can contact us by calling 01244 354688 or by filling in our contact form.

Case Study:

We help lots of clients every year claim the compensation they deserve. Below is a case study showing how we have helped a client claim compensation for an anaesthesia error. Please be aware that the compensation amounts depend on the client’s individual situation and experiences. To see how much your claim could be worth please contact us directly.

Anaesthetic Error Case Study – £1,500 in Compensation

  • Our client underwent an operation on his back. When he awoke from the anaesthetic he realised that one of his front teeth was missing. The anaesthetist had knocked the tooth out during the operation.
  • The doctors were unable to locate the tooth and it was unclear whether our client had swallowed the tooth during the operation or not.
  • As a result of losing his tooth, our client was unable to eat properly and suffered from pain where his tooth was knocked out. He also had to have a denture fitted. He received £1,500 compensation.
