I knew this is the place where I belong

Blog by Lisa Aston, Conveyancer

Lisa Aston, Conveyancer in the residential Conveyancing Department shares her thoughts on her career at Oliver & Co and why she returned to work at the company after leaving for a short while.

My personal journey at Oliver & Co has been an interesting one which started in February 2006 when I joined as a legal secretary within the Conveyancing Department. I assisted Solicitors and Fee Earners dealing with clients and immediately realised this is the firm I wanted to be with for the foreseeable future.

When the housing market had a blip in 2008/2009 I was offered a position within the Industrial Disease department where I stayed for a couple of years until I decided my heart was indeed with the Conveyancing area of law so returned to Conveyancing as an Assistant.

I had my second child in March 2018. However, due to childcare restraints,  I had to take employment with a solicitors firm that was local to my home and was devastated that my time with Oliver & Co had come to an end.

Then came Covid which changed so many things! I had stayed in touch with friends I had made over the years at Oliver & Co and as advances were made, it meant that there was now an opportunity to work remotely for the firm whilst still being able to be there for my children. I jumped at the chance of returning to work for the firm who I had loved working with, so I returned in February 2021.

I am now a Fee Earner within the Conveyancing department with my own case load of files dealing with sales, purchases and remortgages. I absolutely love my job and could not see myself working for anyone else. I feel proud of the attitude the company has to excellent customer care and love to receive positive testimonials from clients who are delighted with the service my team and I have provided.

Even before the firm became Employee Owned I knew this is the place where I belong. I am very proud and excited to be part of this small part of history of the firm. I hope that we become an example to other law firms and businesses in the area that becoming employee-owned is a great way to motivate, excite and value your staff.
