Anyone for tea? Hosting a party for Re-Engage

Last weekend in beautiful North Wales, the clink of tea cups could be heard, with chattering and laughing.

Angela, one of our Personal Injury Solicitors was hosting tea party for Re-Engage, helping older people, aged 75 or older come together.

Re-engage is a charity dedicated to ending loneliness in older people and is searching for more volunteers to help run it’s free monthly tea parties.

These tea parties are a crucial social event for so many older people, some rarely leave their homes. Some are  isolated, lonely or just in need of companionship.

Anna, Peggy, Jane, Geraldine, Pauline, Valerie and Joyce were driven by Sophie, Barbara and Sara and had a lovely start to their afternoon having a scenic drive around the North Wales countryside on their way to the cottage.

Angela says “I decided to host the party outside in our cottage gardens with the weather being so lovely allowing the ladies to enjoy the fresh air and enjoy the outdoors. The hens came and joined us as they are all free range and are very nosy, which the ladies all loved.”

“Having the ladies at our cottage was an absolute delight. To see them chatting away whilst enjoying a cup of tea and eating was just wonderful to see. They heard stories about our rescue hens and ducks and how I delivered our baby pygmy goat. A few of the ladies even managed the walk down the garden to see our two pigs and four goats. As soon as I said there were more animals they were off down the garden for a look!”

“They absolutely loved their time outside, giving them a change of scenery and were delighted to spend just a few hours away from their own home, meeting other people. This is why these tea parties are so important and I would encourage anyone who can host one of these to do it. It is something you will remember and will not regret! I certainly don’t.”

Angela hosted her tea party on a Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours. Most parties are held on Sundays once a month and there can be around 8 guests along with their hosts and drivers. She provided home made quiches, sandwiches, biscuits, scones and other cakes along with tea and soft drinks! With toilet facilities downstairs and good access and parking so that the participants had easy access, they were all set!.

If you are feeling lonely, or isolated and would like to speak to someone at Re-engage to find out more information about attending one of these tea parties please complete this form yourself or ask a family member or friend to do it for you or you can call free phone 0800 716543.

If you can spare a couple of hours a month to help older lonely people in the Chester area or wish to get involved in another way with Re-Engage please have a look on their website for vacancies.
