Supporting the Local Community and Giving Back to Those in Need

[lead] International Day of Charity is observed annually on 5th September. The prime purpose of this day is to raise awareness and provide a platform for charitable organisations at local, national and international levels.[/lead]

International Day of Charity on the 5th of September 2023 serves to enhance social responsibility amongst us all, something which we at Oliver & Co Solicitors take very seriously. We pride ourselves in supporting the local community and giving back to those in need, so here is a little recap of our fundraising efforts over the last couple of months.

Our Charity of the Year

Each year at Oliver & Co Solicitors, the staff nominate a new Charity of the Year. For 2023/24, our fundraising efforts are focused on West Cheshire Foodbank, a charity founded in 2012 with the aim of combating poverty and hunger in our local area. From March 2022 to March 2023, a staggering 139,950 tonnes of food was distributed throughout West Cheshire.

We kicked off our efforts by setting up a donation station at our office and each month our staff are encouraged to donate. We chose a different theme each month for the donated items, using the list of items suggested by the Foodbank – May saw Coronation Afternoon Tea themed items and August saw baby supplies.

The response for this has been overwhelming, and all of our employees have come together to ensure that we can give a substantial donation to our local community every month. We are delighted to be supporting this charity that provides such an essential lifeline to people in crisis.

In addition to our above fundraising, we have raffled off spaces in our city centre car park to staff members and have had a week-long cake sale. Not to mention the constant supply of tasty cakes and biscuits to buy, but these events have raised nearly £500 to add to our total.

On Friday 15th September 2023, Oliver & Co Solicitors will be having a sponsored cycle at the office. With our Lycra at the ready, our employees have two bikes and eight hours to cycle as many miles as they can to raise even more funds for West Cheshire Foodbank!

Bag it, beat it

Since 2018, Oliver & Co Solicitors have taken part in British Heart Foundation’s ‘Bag it, beat it’ campaign. We have a permanent donation station at our office for employees and their family and friends to donate their unwanted items.

So far, 709 bags have been collected containing clothes, children’s toys, furniture and more. This has raised a whopping £9,217 for the British Heart Foundation, making us their top corporate donation station in Cheshire. We look forward to continuing being a part of this campaign for many years to come and hitting 5 figures for our donations!

Supporting Macmillan

Our Industrial Disease department specialises in asbestos disease claims and have worked in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support for over 15 years. The charity provides care, support and assistance to those affected by cancer, including asbestos-related cancers. A person’s entire world can change after a cancer diagnosis, and Macmillan provide vital financial assistance, as well offering emotional support and practical advice to not only the patient, but their families too.

Many of our clients have found Macmillan’s help to be invaluable and working with our clients daily gives our solicitors a real insight into the excellent work this charity provides.

Oliver & Co Solicitors regularly donate thousands of pounds to Macmillan each year. To date, we have raised over £43,000 for Macmillan since 2008 to assist them with the valuable service they provide to our clients and their families.
