Oliver & Co Highly Commended in British Wills & Probate Awards 2020

Posted on October 27th 2020

Here at Oliver & Co we pride ourselves on delivering great service to all of our clients whilst also doing our part to help look after the environment, our staff and our community.

Thanks to these values, we were shortlisted for two awards in this year’s British Wills and Probate Awards. The awards look to celebrate excellence within the Wills and Probate industry, a part of our company that has gone from strength to strength in recent years.

This year, there were a record number of entries and so we were ecstatic to be shortlisted for the Solicitor Firm of the Year (North) and Community Involvement Awards. As one of the smaller firms, with a Wills and Probate team of seven, we were up against some stiff competition, in particular, some of the larger firms that specialise in this area of law.

Thanks to COVID-19, there was no glitzy awards evening to attend, instead company Director, David Owen, donned his tuxedo and sat in front of his computer for his first virtual awards ceremony which was held on Thursday October 22nd.

The first category that we were shortlisted for, was for Community Involvement and this was to be awarded to the firm with an organised approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR). For a few years now we have concentrated on our CSR work, nominating a Charity of the Year to raise funds for, sponsoring numerous local events and doing what we can for the environment and local causes. Our Wills and Probate Department have been integral to our CSR work, hosting monthly Wills Clinics at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and providing services for free in exchange for a donation to the hospice.

The second category that we were shortlisted for, was for Solicitor Firm of the Year (North) and this was to be awarded to the regional firm who has best proven all round excellence within the Wills, Probate and Estate Management field. As a small firm dealing with a variety of areas of law, it was amazing for us to be shortlisted in this category and we were immensely pleased that the judges had deemed our Wills and Probate work to be worthy of being shortlisted in this category.

Sadly, we didn’t win either category. However, we were highly commended for our Community Involvement work which was a huge achievement. Director, David Owen said, “ We are extremely pleased that we were shortlisted in both of these categories and delighted that the judges recognised the firm’s efforts in the category of Community Involvement by highly commending us.”

We will continue to work hard, improve our services for our clients and do as much as we can for our community, so watch out for us in next year’s awards !
