Meet The Team – Will Newman

Our ‘Meet the Team’ articles aim to let you learn more about our staff, who are the foundations of Oliver & Co and our excellent client feedback and reviews.

This week we are speaking to Will Newman, a Commercial Property Solicitor who has recently started working here at Oliver & Co. We asked him a few questions about the reasons why he wanted to be a solicitor and what sets Oliver & Co apart. (Photo to follow, when barbers are open again!)

Even though Will is our newest member of staff, he has already managed to receive excellent client feedback.

Read on to hear what he has to say!

Why did you want to become a solicitor?

When I applied to University I was not sure what career path I wanted to take at that point in my life. I therefore chose a subject which I enjoyed and went to study History of Art at Oxford Brookes University.

Upon graduation I felt that the experiences obtained in my degree would be transferrable into law having acquired an eye for detail and research skills.

Which areas of law did you train in?

I trained in Commercial Litigation initially. This work was wide-ranging and involved Landlord and Tenant matters, contract disputes and small claims. It would also involve regular work within a team on specialised injunctions. This gave me a good understanding of contract law and the Civil Court system.

I then trained in Commercial Property on a full spectrum of work from freehold sales, to high street and industrial property leases.

Finally I completed a training seat with a Corporate and Commercial department. This involved assisting in both asset and share purchase agreements and conducting due diligence.

Why did you want to specialise in Commercial Property law?

I always wanted to work in a commercial environment because that is what interested me. Having gained experience in all my training seats this was the area that I enjoyed the most and felt suited my skill set.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work you will often find me on the 5 a side football pitch or the squash courts. I also enjoy skiing and reading books on espionage.

Oliver & Co prides themselves on great customer service. Can you describe a time you received amazing customer service?

Within my first few weeks at Oliver & Co we were dealing with the impact of Coronavirus on businesses. While working from home and still getting used to new software systems I was able to turn around advice to a client in a very small time frame which they complimented me on.

What sets Oliver & Co apart?

Even before I joined the team I had spoken to people in the Chester Community who were very complimentary about Oliver & Co’s services and the way it operates. I think Oliver & Co are seen as approachable but professional and are willing to go the extra mile.
