Our ‘Meet the Team’ articles aim to let you learn more about our staff, who are the foundations of Oliver & Co and our excellent client feedback and reviews.
Kathryn Bull is a Senior Personal Injury Litigation Executive with a wealth of experience. She pursues compensation claims for people who have been injured through no fault of their own. Kathryn specialises in claims for accidents at work and road traffic collisions.
Suffering an injury due to an accident can have a devastating effect on someone’s life and Kathryn works hard to ensure her clients get the compensation they need and deserve. We wanted to know why Kathryn chose personal injury law and what it means to her.
Why did you want to work in law?
I always wanted to be a Solicitor and did my work experience aged 15 in a firm specialising in Crime – on my first day in the office, a client came in wanting to hand himself into the Police who were looking for him for attempted murder of his stepson. Together with the solicitor we attended a local police station and I was part of the initial Police interview “In this room is DCI Bloggs, DCI Jones..” and I had to say my name for the purposes of the tape! That made me definitely want a career in law!
Why did you want to specialise in personal injury law?
I started my legal career as a legal secretary in a typing pool more than 25 years ago (and I am only 35!) and then became a secretary for a partner in the Personal Injury Department which is where my interest in PersonaI Injury ( PI ) law began. As a Partner, the Solicitor I was working for would deal with the most horrific of cases and I liked the idea of him being Robin Hood ‘robbing from the rich (insurance companies) and paying the poor– those who were needing to be compensated for injuries suffered through no fault of their own’.
When a role came up in the Uninsured Loss Recovery Department – the RTA department dealing with vehicle repairs and car hire charges (no PI) I jumped at the chance and that it is where my journey began. From non PI RTA claims, to now dealing with all types of PI claims including the most serious of injuries during which time, I studied at night/part time to achieve a legal qualification.
How long have you been part of the Oliver & Co team?
I have been working at Oliver & Co for more than 14 years now and love being part of the team – it is like being part of a family 😊 and each day is different. They encourage well being and team bonding. There is nothing like an Oliver & Co party!
What sets Oliver & Co apart?
I pride myself on customer service ; I always endeavour to empathise with my clients and work alongside them in ensuring that they receive the maximum amount of compensation for the injuries they have suffered and the effect that it has on their life, work and family. I have recently settled a case for a client suffering a brain injury following an accident at work and this is what he said:
“Couldn’t recommend Oliver & Co highly enough!!!! 5 years ago Kathryn Bull & team took on my work related personal injury claim and the news I’ve received today has blown me & my family away. What started as a very tough time now has happy ending. Kathryn’s patience & understanding during this difficult time has been so reassuring, calming & explained step by step the process.
Always ensure we were up to date with developments however minor and provided good advice & guidance all the way. Thanks Kathryn & Team we couldn’t have done it without you!!!!”
If you didn’t work at Oliver & Co, what would you be doing?
If I hadn’t been a solicitor I would have liked to work in social services – as with personal injury, I like to help people, to help change their lives!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside work I like reading. I enjoy holidays abroad. I am also a volunteer for a local community group, helping those in need.
