During Volunteers Week 2024, we are extending our gratitude to the dedicated volunteers in the UK who make a significant impact in our communities. This special week, observed from 1st to 7th June, is a time to recognise and celebrate the selfless contributions of volunteers across the country.
Oliver & Co’s own volunteers
We recently performed an exercise and asked our dedicated employees at Oliver & Co to tell us about the volunteering they do in their spare time. We were truly blown away by the depth and breadth of the volunteering that our employees are actively involved in. From training to be a Girl Guide leader and supporting Guide and Ranger units every week, being treasurer to the NW Netball club, to providing much needed company and afternoon tea for elderly ladies who don’t have family locally for Re-engage. The list of activities grew and grew!
Keeping premature babies warm
Tracy Stanton, Conveyancing Legal Executive at Oliver & Co knits garments for Special Care Baby Units locally in her spare time. She said “I have knitted for over 40 years but since lock down I began to knit tiny little garments to keep the premature babies warm. I find it relaxing but it’s also great to know that my hobby is benefitting those in need. It is such a stressful time for new parents, so to have tiny new clothes readily available is one worry off their minds. A friend recently asked me how many items I’ve knitted for the babies – I couldn’t even guess but it’s definitely in the hundreds!”
Volunteers are the backbone of numerous charitable organisations and community initiatives. Their unwavering commitment and generosity of spirit help to address critical issues, support vulnerable populations, and foster a sense of unity and compassion within our society.
Supporting the local arts
Tim Polding, Head of our Commercial Team at Oliver & Co has provided his legal expertise on a pro bono basis to local Arts Charity, AmaSing, for many years. This Chester based inclusive organisation, recently featured on primetime BBC and ITV shows, works collaboratively with educational establishments, arts organisations, hospitals and Chester Zoo to develop and enhance children’s and young adults’ wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem through their involvement in the creative arts.
AmaSing Director Rachael Borman says “We are so grateful to Tim and Oliver & Co Solicitors who not only have sponsored many of our arts for wellbeing workshops and community theatre shows over the years but have also allowed Tim the time to support [us]. If I realistically added up the costs I would have had to pay Tim as a solicitor for the work he has done for AmaSing, it would have been impossible for us to afford as a small charity/ organisation. All we can say is a huge massive thank you to Tim and Oliver & Co Solicitors for this. I believe how they have treated us really shows they do practise what they state in their CSR policy using their expertise to give back to communities and helping to make a real positive impact on them.”
