This week is a tribute to serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets, and their families and highlights the ongoing challenges faced by them, especially those transitioning to civilian life. Charities like Help for Heroes are highlighting the importance of continued support, noting that many former service members face physical injuries, emotional trauma, and financial hardship long after their service ends.

Chester Salutes Service: Armed Forces Week 2025
From 22nd to 28th June 2025, the historic city of Chester is proudly joining the nation in celebrating Armed Forces Week, honouring the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of the UK’s military community. This year’s observance is especially poignant, marking the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day, and Chester is embracing the moment with heartfelt tributes and community spirit.
A Week of Local Pride and National Gratitude
Cheshire West and Chester Council is leading the charge with a week-long series of events to honour serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets, and military families. The celebrations began on Monday 23 June, when the Armed Forces Day flag was raised outside Chester Town Hall, attended by military representatives, cadet forces, veterans’ organisations, and civic dignitaries.
In a touching new tradition, Chester Crematorium in Blacon also held a flag-raising ceremony to honour fallen service members, reflecting the city’s deep respect for those who served.
