Action Mesothelioma Day 2026

Action Mesothelioma Day takes place annually on the first Friday of July and is promoted by the charity Mesothelioma UK. It is designed to raise awareness about mesothelioma and is also an opportunity to remember all those whose lives have been impacted by this devastating condition.

What is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive form of cancer caused by the inhalation of airborne asbestos dust. It is a disease that can occur decades after someone has had asbestos exposure and sadly can be caused by just one asbestos fibre. In the UK, approximately 2,700 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year, despite the asbestos ban put in place over two decades ago. Whilst there are some treatments in place to help sufferers of mesothelioma, the condition is sadly terminal with no cure to date.

Go Blue for Action Mesothelioma Day

To mark Action Mesothelioma Day, the ‘Go Blue for Meso’ campaign shines a blue spotlight on how you can help to support people who have sadly been impacted by mesothelioma. The campaign helps draw attention to the dangers of asbestos as well as encouraging fundraising for Mesothelioma UK allowing them to continue to provide invaluable support to the people who need it the most.  If you would like to take part, you can join a Blue Light Walk near you by visiting https://www.mesothelioma.uk.com/amd/

Here at Oliver and Co, we have arranged for our local landmarks to be lit up blue today in honour of all or clients and the thousands of others who have suffered due to the impact of mesothelioma. We hope this will raise awareness of not only the dangers of asbestos but also the support available for anyone suffering because of the devastating impacts it can have.

Sadly, we continue to hear about people being exposed to asbestos with concerns for their health which shows that continuing danger it still poses to our society. Thankfully, most people exposed to asbestos dust will never develop any difficulties as a result, but through awareness and education we hope that we can work towards an asbestos disease-free future.
