Oliver & Co help gain compensation for the family of a man who died at work

The Personal Injury team of Oliver & Co helped a widow and daughter of a 34 year old man who died when he fell through a roof whilst at work.

The man was working as a roofer and was carrying out repair work when he fell through a missing skylight.

A claim was brought against his employers as they failed to ensure safety nets were installed and to fence off unsafe areas. The employers denied liability (responsibility) for the accident.

Oliver & Co represented the widow at the Inquest into her husband’s death which enabled questions to be asked and information to be obtained which would be supportive during the claim.

Court proceedings were issued

Court proceedings were issued on behalf of the widow and their child to progress the claim.  A claim was made on their behalf for a bereavement award under the Fatal Accidents Act 1976. We also claimed a dependency award which was a claim for the loss of the earnings the deceased would have earned but for his death and for the funeral expenses.

A negotiated settlement was made

Before the case came to Trial, we were able to negotiate settlement of £106,000 for the widow and £12,600 for his daughter.
