£15,000 Compensation Secured Following a Cycling Accident Claim

At Oliver & Co Solicitors, we recently helped a client secure £15,000 in compensation after he was injured in a cycling accident involving a commercial vehicle.

Collisions between cyclists and larger vehicles can result in serious injuries, even at relatively low speeds. In this case, our client was left with painful physical injuries as well as lasting anxiety that affected his confidence on the road.

The Cycling Accident

Our client was cycling along a road when a commercial vehicle attempted to overtake him while approaching a bend.

As the vehicle moved back into the lane, it struck his bicycle, causing him to fall heavily onto the road.

Following the collision, he sought advice from our experienced personal injury solicitors about making a cycling accident compensation claim.

The Injuries Sustained

The accident left our client with several injuries, including:

  • Rib fractures
  • A back injury
  • Concussion
  • Multiple cuts and abrasions

Although his physical injuries gradually improved, the emotional impact of the accident continued long after the collision.

He experienced ongoing anxiety, particularly when cycling on the road, and also lost confidence when travelling as a passenger in a vehicle. These psychological symptoms had a significant effect on his day-to-day life and were an important part of the claim.

How We Helped

Liability for the accident was admitted, allowing us to focus on securing the appropriate level of compensation.

To support the claim, we obtained detailed medical evidence to assess the full extent of our client’s injuries and ongoing symptoms. We also gathered financial evidence to support claims for loss of earnings and the damage caused to his cycling equipment.

One of the more complex aspects of the case involved carefully assessing our client’s ongoing symptoms following a separate incident that occurred after the collision. By reviewing the medical evidence in detail, we were able to demonstrate which injuries and symptoms were directly linked to the cycling accident.

The Outcome

Following negotiations with the insurer, we successfully secured £15,000 in compensation without the need for court proceedings.

The settlement reflected not only our client’s physical injuries but also the lasting psychological impact the collision had on his confidence when cycling and travelling on the road.
