Our client decided to undergo cosmetic laser treatment to her face. A patch test was conducted which caused only mild discomfort and our client decided to have the full treatment. The treatment was in several parts and the first session was uneventful.
When our client attended the second session, she found this to be significantly more painful and the treatment was discontinued. Our client developed blisters and burn-like symptoms on her face which resulted in scarring.
It was alleged that either too much power was used in the second treatment and/or the cooling device was not used in the second treatment. Our client found the scarring difficult to cope with and was later diagnosed with a recognised psychiatric disorder.
Difficulties arose in pursuing this claim as the defendant did not have adequate insurance. However, our client was successful in making a claim.
