Six-Figure Mesothelioma Settlement Achieved in Just Months

In August 2025, Mr D approached us following his diagnosis of mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

His diagnosis came under difficult circumstances. While visiting family in Australia, he became unwell and was admitted to hospital, where tests confirmed the condition. Due to his health, he was unable to fly home and instead had to return to the UK by cruise ship, incurring significant additional expense.

History of Asbestos Exposure

Mr D’s exposure dated back to the 1970s, when he worked for a number of insulation companies, including L.B. Insulations, Express Insulations Limited and T.S. Insulation Services Limited.

In his roles as a lagger and metal cladder, he was regularly tasked with stripping asbestos insulation from pipework across multiple sites, including Graylingwell Psychiatric Hospital in Chichester, Cynamids GB in Gosport, and industrial locations in Bristol and Avonmouth.

Despite the hazardous nature of the work, adequate protective measures were not in place. He was provided with little more than basic overalls and a simple mask, leaving him exposed to significant levels of asbestos dust, often in enclosed and poorly ventilated environments.

Early Admission and Rapid Progress

Following detailed investigations, we identified the relevant insurers and submitted Letters of Claim. An admission of liability was secured at an early stage, allowing us to obtain an interim payment of £50,000 for Mr D shortly after he instructed us.

The claim was concluded in February 2026, with a settlement of £245,000, alongside the recovery of private medical treatment costs. The case was resolved in just over six months.

Ongoing Treatment Costs Secured

As part of the settlement, provision was made for the funding of any private treatment recommended by Mr D’s oncologist for as long as required.

This is a crucial element in mesothelioma claims, as treatment costs can be substantial. In many cases, access to private care not only removes financial concern but also provides patients with wider treatment options.
