This week is ‘No More Week’, a week where campaigners against domestic abuse and sexual violence, encourage those who have suffered domestic abuse or sexual violence, or know someone who has, to speak up, seek help and support one another. All across the country, communities are coming together this week to remind us that together, we can create a safer, kinder future, and work towards the end of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
Facing the Reality
The Office for National Statistics reports that;
- Nearly 2.3 million adults in England and Wales have experienced domestic abuse in the past year.
- About one in four women and one in seven men will be the victim of domestic abuse at some point in their lives.
Domestic abuse and sexual violence remain a persistent issue that leave a devastating impact on survivors’ lives.
Domestic Abuse: Your Safety Comes First
In a moment of crisis, knowing what to do from a legal point of view and in respect of practical issues, can be lifesaving.
If you are in an emergency situation where you cannot speak, call 999 and type in 55 on the phone keypad and the police can locate you (if you do or say nothing, the call may be ignored).
This simple instruction is designed for those moments when you’re unable to call out for help. It provides a discreet way to alert emergency services and get help when you need it most.
