We are proud to have secured compensation for Mr. C in a living peritoneal mesothelioma claim, which included a significant “lost years” element. This case required swift action and a professional approach from start to finish.
Asbestos Exposure While Working for the Council
Mr. C was exposed to harmful asbestos dust while working as a carpenter and joiner for Wakefield Council between 1961 and 1968. During this time, he worked in unprotected conditions, regularly handling materials containing asbestos.
Mr C had a mild cognitive impairment and so our specialist asbestos disease solicitor, James Cameron, made extra efforts to support him. James visited Mr. C at his home in Yorkshire to carefully gather detailed evidence about his exposure and ensure the case was as strong as possible. Preparing Mr. C’s witness statements and gathering additional information on his financial losses (special damages) required time and dedication, but it was essential to secure the best possible outcome.
Swift Action and Interim Support
Thanks to James’s expertise as an APIL-accredited asbestos disease solicitor, a letter of claim was sent to Wakefield Council within just a week of meeting Mr. C. This led to an interim payment of £50,000 being secured by September 2024, helping to provide immediate financial relief for Mr. C and his family.
Full Settlement Secured
The case concluded less than five months after we first spoke with Mr C. On 25th November 2024, Mr. C was awarded a significant settlement of £160,000 gr.
