Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers

What is it?

The Society of Clinical Injury lawyers, otherwise known as SCIL, is an organisation made up of solicitors who are specialists in acting for claimants in clinical negligence claims.

SCIL’s main aim is to promote best practice in the conduct of clinical negligence claims, as well as promoting access to justice and patient safety.

SCIL are actively campaigning in order to:

  1. Improve patient safety and knowledge within the NHS;
  2. Support innocent victims of clinical negligence;
  3. Reform the redress system for victims of clinical negligence.

SCIL was created to try to not only reduce legal costs and speed up the ligation process, but also to promote within the medical profession a desire to learn lessons from cases, in order to try and avoid the same mistakes being made in the future.

Members are involved in conferences throughout the year, encouraging the specialist solicitors to discuss a wide number of topics that will affect how clinical negligence solicitors approach cases and to share ideas and work together to improve clinical negligence litigation.

SCIL also works with defendant representatives to agree procedures and practices to try to streamline clinical negligence litigation, in an effort to save legal costs, prevent delays and achieve the best possible outcome for claimants.

Our membership

Oliver and Co Solicitors, through our dual qualified (as solicitor and doctor) head of Clinical Negligence department, Linda Schermer-Jones, are proud to be members of SCIL.
