Free Will Service – Cancer Research UK

If you are over 55 you can have your Will written by Oliver & Co Solicitors for free with Cancer Research UK’s Free Will Scheme.

Making a Will can be a daunting task, but it is a vital document that ensures that your loved ones and the charities you support are looked after once you are gone. Cancer Research UK’s ‘Free Will Service’ makes it as simple as possible for you to look after your family, friends, and any charities that you support. If you are aged 55 or over Cancer Research UK will pay for the writing of your standard Will through Oliver & Co. Get in touch with us today to discuss how you can receive a free Will.

Eligibility

You must be aged 55 or over to use this scheme. However, if you are writing a joint Will with your partner, only one of you needs to be aged 55 or over.

Why does Cancer Research UK pay for Wills?

Cancer Research state: “We know that many people want to help beat cancer by leaving us a gift in their Will. We want to offer something in return for this generous support.”

Leaving a gift to Cancer Research UK

If you make a free Will with us, you do not have to leave a gift to Cancer Research UK. However, by leaving a gift in your Will you will help the charity continue to lead the fight against cancer after you are gone.

One in two of us may be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives. Fortunately, survival rates for cancer have doubled in the last forty years – two in four people now survive a cancer diagnosis. However, there’s still more work to be done – with your help Cancer Research UK is determined to see three in four people survive cancer by 2034.

Your legacy gift will support research into preventative measures, earlier diagnoses and better treatments. Gifts in Wills fund over a third of Cancer Research UK’s pioneering research so it is a vital source of income for the charity.

What your gift can do

You can choose how and where your gift is spent. For example, you may want your gift:

  • To be spent on researching a specific type of cancer
  • To be spent on research in your local area

You can leave as little or as much as you like. Below are some examples of what different amounts could fund:

£440 makes cancer cells easier for scientists to find. This money funds two sets of glowing particles, which illuminate cells like fluorescent beacons. This makes it easier for scientists to study cancer at a minuscule level in their labs.

£1000 accelerates breakthroughs in the lab by providing a set of high – tech pipettes. These pipettes measure minuscule exact amounts of liquid needed in experiments.

£11,000 can test the quality of DNA saving both time and money when it comes to research.

£300,000 lets scientist see deeper into samples using a high-tech infer-red laser, which will increase the rate of breakthroughs made.

Of course, there is no obligation to donate to Cancer Research UK in order to receive a free Will.
