Over £2,000 raised for Macmillan Cancer Support at our sold-out charity gig!
Posted on February 6th 2019
We are proud to report that we have managed to raise a grand total of £2,046.70 for Macmillan Cancer Support at a charity gig we hosted on Saturday 2nd February at the Bridge Inn, Boughton.
Read on to learn more about the gig and why we continue to support Macmillan Cancer Support.
The gig was a brilliant way to kick off a brand new year of fundraising. James Cameron, asbestos disease solicitor and Associate Director at Oliver & Co played with his band, “The Eskimo Spies” for their longest set yet at over 3 hours, to raise as much money as possible for the charity. James said:
“I have specialised in asbestos disease cases for over 12 years and have seen first-hand the devastating effect asbestos-related cancers, like mesothelioma, can have not only on the sufferer, but also on their families as well. Music is a favourite past time of mine and by bringing people together at the gig, I hoped to raise as much money and awareness as possible for Macmillan which is a charity close to my heart. I am delighted to say that we exceeded our target. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making such a success of the night.”
In the weeks leading up to the gig, ticket sales were very successful and all tickets were sold out in January. With a full room of over 150 people, there was a brilliant atmosphere.
During the night, there was also a raffle with some amazing prizes. Prizes included a 2 course lunch for 2 people at the Chef’s Table in Chester, a Sunday lunch for 4 at the Bridge Inn, a 60 minute relaxing massage at Brook Street’s Thainamoon and a 2 night holiday getaway.
Our industrial disease department specialises in asbestos disease claims and have been supporting the charity for over 10 years. The charity provides vital support and advice to people living with cancer, including asbestos-related cancers, as well as their families.
Oliver & Co Solicitors have now raised over £36,000 for Macmillan over the years, and to raise £2,000 for the charity in just one night is a mammoth achievement.
Macmillan’s Corporate Fundraising Manager for Cheshire, Megan Kong said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as Oliver & Co Solicitors’ charity partner. Our work is almost entirely funded by public donations, so we are extremely grateful for every pound given to us. The money raised will go towards helping Macmillan support people affected by cancer at the time they need us most”.
Our specialist asbestos disease solicitors have succeeded in recovering millions of pounds in compensation for asbestos disease sufferers and their families nationwide and abroad.
Working with these clients daily gives our solicitors a real insight into the invaluable service the charity provides.
Due to the gig’s success, we plan to make the charity show an annual event to raise even more funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in the future.
