Improving our Disabled Access

Posted on October 16th 2017

Here at Oliver & Co we are always looking for ways to improve our services.

This year Chester has been awarded the 2017 ‘Access City’ award, meaning it has been ranked the most accessible city in Europe. In line with our city, we believe it is important for everyone to be able to access services. This month we contacted a number of disability organisations to evaluate our disabled access. In response to their feedback we have worked hard to improve our facilities. As a result, we are proud to announce that we are now more accessible for people with mobility, hearing, and visual impairments!

Our Facilities for Mobility Impairment:

You can access our main entrance via a disabled ramp. Once you have entered the building all of our meeting rooms are on the ground floor, which is spacious for wheelchair access. The first and second floors of our building are accessible using our lift. We also have a disabled toilet.

Our Facilities for Hearing Impairment:

We have had a permanent hearing loop fitted in our reception area, and now have a portable loop to use in our meeting rooms. Our staff will also be receiving ‘Deaf Awareness Training’ from the Deafness Support Network in the near future. We hope that this will enable our staff to improve their communication skills and break down the barriers faced by people who are deaf or have hearing loss.

Our Facilities for Vision Impairment:

After speaking to Chester Vision Centre, we have now updated our systems so that all communications to visually impaired people can be sent in plain text format. Sending all our documents in plain text will mean that they should be compatible with any audio descriptive or easy read software that our clients could be using.
