Take the next steps with confidence

Seeing a solicitor can feel daunting. With this in mind, we offer a free initial telephone conversation over the phone, to provide you with initial advice, which may be all you need at that stage.

Should you require more detailed advice or want to see us face to face we offer a 45-minute appointment. This is an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and obtain further tailored advice based upon your specific situation.  There is no obligation on you to proceed further at this stage.

Family Law FAQs

Situations which require a family solicitor are often very emotional and stressful for all parties concerned. They are also occasions when difficult life changing decisions need to be made about your future and the future of any children you have. By obtaining legal advice at an early stage you will understand your rights and responsibilities, and how best to tackle these difficult decisions. It is important that you receive independent, accurate and trustworthy advice to enable you to make the decisions that are right for your situation and to ensure you do not agree to something that may not be right for you in the long run.

As a grandparent, you are entitled to make an application to the court concerning your grandchildren to resolve living arrangements, arrange to spend time with your grandchildren or for any other relevant issues. We can help you to make the best application possible. Any application is judged on its merits taking into account both parents’ views.

Mothers automatically have parental responsibility for their children. Married parents have joint parental responsibility. If the partners are not married, only the mother has parental responsibility. An unmarried father can acquire parental responsibility by being registered on the child’s birth certificate with the consent of the mother, by entering into a parental responsibility agreement, or by applying to court. If you require any advice in this area, our solicitors at Oliver & Co can assist you.
