The industrial disease department deals with a wide range of cases including asbestos, respiratory disease, noise induced hearing loss, vibration white finger, dermatitis and repetitive strain injury cases.

Asbestos claims form a significant part of the department's work, as the legacy of the UK's industrial past continues to haunt future generations. The very long latency period for asbestos conditions (the time period between exposure and onset of disease can be  50 years or more) means that the number of asbestos claims are predicted to continue to rise until 2015 and beyond.  The Department specialises in all asbestos conditions including mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis, and diffuse pleural thickening.
